We honor the life of Breonna Taylor and offer love and solidarity to all who have been mobilized by this injustice. Just like in countless other cases, the court did not offer justice. This additional insult to another irreparable injury is heartbreaking but not surprising, as our current system continues to show it is not designed to truly bring justice.

As an organization rooted in providing justice and care for survivors of police violence, we know that repair comes from communities and movements.

It is inexcusable for officers to face no accountability for killing a Black Woman sleeping in her bed, but history teaches that agents of oppression rarely experience consequences for committing harm. As we collectively hold the trauma of Breonna’s death being deemed justified by the State, it is our responsibility to honor her legacy and work towards an expanded notion of justice rooted in the People.

Justice looks like harnessing collective power to transform our society so that we no longer rely on the systems which placed armed men in her bedroom in the first place.

Accountability looks like reparations for Breonna’s family and communities as well as all impacted by State violence. This moment is another reminder that liberation work is never finished.

We are peoples who have been subject to kidnapping, rape, violence, segregation, structural and state-sanctioned violence, and torture. Through it all, we honor those who have survived, and those who have not. We offer deep resilience, joy, fierce and visionary resistance, deep care and support that moves all of us towards more just and liberatory futures.

We know what side we stand on and we will continue to fight to end all forms of police and state violence. We are fighting for a world that honors and fosters our ability to heal from traumas for the sake of our inherent right to life, joy, and to reconnect us to our dreams for ourselves and our people.
